Loving v. Virginia is one decision for which I am rather grateful; perhaps Loving v. Missouri is next?.

No Sex: no longer the only safe sex

Yet another reason not to stop at the headlines:  When you read,  Circumcision, Fidelity More Effective HIV Prevention Methods Than Condoms, Abstinence, Researchers Say, it isn't exactly clear that they're not actually saying that simply not engaging in sexual activity is not as good at preventing HIV than other methods!  (It's about the success rates of various programs promoting said alternatives.)

Racism

I'm so glad I don't live in Chicago.  It would be awful enough having such racist families, but to also be surrounded by people like this: "There are all these negative messages that are out there in society about people. I think there's still this belief that black men have large penises, white men have small penises. And your friends want to know." 

Yes, I know, it's not just Chicago.  Still, I haven't come across anyone (well, anyone non-desi) in Houston who still thinks things like that are issues.  There were a lot in Boston, though; and according to the Chicago Sun-Times, it's a Big Thing when someone doesn't mate based on skin color.  Meh.

All about the Marketing

Gotta love the previews for "Brokeback Mountain" they're showing in Houston.  They talk about how it's such a great romance, and then show lots of clips of one of the guys with a girl.  No hint at all about the two guys getting together.  They know their market!

Polygamy and the "slope"

The Professor jokes:

Favorite husband? I blame the gay marriage movement for the spread of polygamy!

He can laugh all he wants, but as one who (for no reason but entertainment!) is on the mailing lists of pro-polygamy groups, I can say with certainty that those who think polygamy is a good or at least non-objectionable thing are for the most part thrilled about the progress of the same-sex marriage movement, even though they generally disapprove of homosexual behavior.  They find it rather obvious that it's a "slippery slope" -- but they welcome the slide. 

Not only bigoted scare-mongers see it that way, Professor.
