Online Plagiarism

I've been going online to check for plagiarism (you know, run an unlikely phrase through Google), and I've found quite a bit.  Most interesting to me, though, has been that the same paragraphs that show up in half a dozen student papers also show up in half a dozen different websites, none of which give any citations.  Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it's possible that all history writing online is in the public domain -- none of the sites that I saw claimed to have a copyright on their work -- but I can't help feeling a bit suspicious...

Frustrating Typos

Anyone know what that typo at the end of Chapter 3 in Dorothy Sayers' "Gaudy Night" is supposed to read?  I have a feeling it's supposed to be Greek but just didn't make it through... same with another typo near the end of the book.  So frustrating ... and even in Amazon's "search inside this book" it only draws up the page with the same typo.

Gotta love the previews for "Brokeback Mountain" they're showing in Houston.  They talk about how it's such a great romance, and then show lots of clips of one of the guys with a girl.  No hint at all about the two guys getting together.  They know their market!

I now have an extraordinarily low opinion of the University of Texas's economics program.  It turns out you can major in economics there and never have heard of Adam Smith or the Invisible Hand.
