Philip Johnson, architect of the dear-to-my-heart Transco Tower (my grandfather worked there and I got to see the view from the top many times), has died. When Lileks' writing sparked an interest in me in 1930s corporate architecture, I began reading about skyscrapers; in many books, this building was referred to as the most perfect skyscraper, with the best combination of different forms -- space, shape, light and shadow, and overall presence.
Hey ya'll my name is Kate and I am from North Carolina. I am a student at Cape Fear Community College and I am writing a paper on the Transco Tower. If anyone would like to tell me their opinion on this building or something that I would not know from reading a book, I would love to hear it. I hope this reaches some one. You can e-mail me your response [email protected]
thanks and God Bless
