I can't get myself to believe that intolerance of conversion away from Hinduism (the most open and tolerant of religions) has changed so much so shortly, so I'd have to guess that either 1) they gave up, 2) they think that a governor is more important (likely the case), or 3) like me, they didn't remember he was running.
